Did you know the price look-up (PLU) can help you determine if the food you are buying is conventionally grown (can use pesticides), organic, or genetically modified (GMO). Be weary that some conventional grown produce can have GMOs without adding it to the PLU code.
-4 numbers on the code means conventionally grown. For examples the sticker on this type of banana would have a #4011.
- 5 numbers on the code that begins with an 8 means genetically modified. A genetically modified banana would have a #84011 on the sticker.
- 5 numbers on the code that begins with a 9 means organic. An organic banana would have a #94011 on the sticker.
